This Shark Steam and Scrub Steam Mop offers outstanding cleaning power and a lightweight, easy to handle design. Shark recommends using only distilled water, which is clearly intended to prevent the formation of mineral scale deposits which would occlude the steam producing components. Is the slow and laborious sanitizing process which is specified in the User Manual actually practical when performing routine housecleaning? I would be concerned for someone who is not stable on their feet to use this mop, the mop will bounce away if it hits something.

Included is a water filling flask, and I was surprised by how little water it takes to fill the reservoir, and how long it lasted with the water tank filled.Using a forward and backward motion, move the mop head slowly and evenly over the area to be sanitized while applying continuous downward pressure. For those dirtier tiles I advanced the cleaning mode to Deep cleaning, however the improvement was very modest, and still below my apparently unrealistic expectations. The cleaning pads are washable, but what I have been doing is hand washing them with dish detergent.

The pads are composed of Polyester and Nylon which washes clean very easily, and should also be reasonably durable. However, as of this juncture, we find it easier and faster to use a conventional mop, which leaves the floors at least as clean, and also leaves the air smelling better. slap the pads to the bottom, they stick because of the velcro that is stuck to the bottom of the rotating discs. Resultantly, if you don’t quickly follow-up with a towel to dry the floors, they will likely exhibit the mottled appearance of water stains in any reflected light, as ours did.We own another steam mop that we seldom use, because it was hard work to get results – the spinning pads on this mop make steaming cleaning fast and easy. The deep clean setting worked great and produced a lot of steam, but required refilling the ~8oz reservoir often (2-3 times to clean a 10x15ft area). The scrubbing pads have an integral donut shaped plastic ring with teeth that align with slots in the drive spindles. Tilting the handle back towards the operator activates the motor which drives the rotating scrubbing pads.

I really like that after it is used, all that remains is a very slight dampness that quickly dries, unlike a traditional mop.Since vinegar cannot be used, the Shark cannot be readily descaled if mineral deposits resultant from using tap water were to clog the internal components. The steering and maneuverability are remarkable, and make cleaning my hard floors as easy as can be. That augmentation might also reduce the offensive odor of the steam mop, and replace it with the scent of the floor cleaner product. Only small complaint, watch out for the cord, if it gets caught in the rotating, it will suck up the cord and keep on spinning and tangle it. You select a mode that fits your floor type (there is a chart in the instructions) and when you tilt the handle back the brushes start spinning.
