Minehead under 15s faced top of the league side Staplegrove Sinners at home on Sunday, after a closely fought first half the away side showed their determination to produce a 1-4 win.
Minehead under 15s were away to VPR at Cannington on Sunday and after a good game played in difficult windy conditions Minehead came away with all the points and a 1-3 win.
Minehead had started strongly and were seeing plenty of the ball, Olly Prescott combined well with Finley Foreman who’s cross into the box was cleared. Archie Dascombe then linked up with Olly Prescott and Tom Barber who was fouled on the edge of the box, Olly Prescott’s free kick was hit hard and low but the keeper saved well at the near post. Archie Dascombe and Tom Barber were again involved in the next attack but the keeper was out to gather the cross. Lewis Leach was giving another strong performance at the back as was Ajay Shopland who controlled the ball well in defence and played a nice ball up the left wing for Tom Barber who combined well with Tyler High but his cross was again gathered by the keeper. Minehead were awarded another free kick on the edge of the box and Tom Barber also had his effort saved then Tyler High then came close to opening the scoring but shot over the bar. The home side broke well down the right wing cutting inside before Riley Merrick at the back made a great tackle to avert any danger. A good passage of quick passing involving Ajay Shopland, Charlie Disney, Olly Prescott, Tyler High, Finley Foreman and Tom Barber produced a great piece of play which ended with Tom Barbers shot been parried out for a corner which Olly Prescott floated in and Finley Foreman’s header was cleared off the line. Minehead opened the scoring following a good move with Finley Foreman and Russell Lindley who played in Tyler High and a great strike left the keeper no chance. The home side then had a period of good possession as they pushed for an equaliser, a free kick was put deep into the box and Ajay Shopland was there to clear for a corner which ended with a shot from the edge of the box which was wide of the post. Tom Barber then had another shot saved following some good link up play with Finley Foreman, Olly Prescott and a Russell Lindley, then Olly Prescott made a good individual run down the wing cutting inside and shooting from just inside the area but could only find the side netting. VPR then equalised after a good counter attack and a one on one with the keeper and it was all square. Charlie Disney made a good penetrating out from defence which ended with a free kick which Olly Prescott saw go over the bar just before the break. Minehead again started well, Olly Prescott saw his long range effort clear the bar, Russell Lindley had his shot saved then Olly Prescott made it 1-2 after scoring direct from a corner. Callum Dewar linked up well with Olly Prescott on the right who played in Tom Barber but again the keeper was equal to the shot. Minehead had a good period of play with plenty of efforts on goal with strikes from Ben Summersgill, Finley Foreman,Tom Barber and Tyler High. The Homeside were limited to a handful of shots on goal which didn’t trouble Ben Bloys in the Minehead goal. Minehead went 1-3 up after a good piece of play on the right wing by Olly Prescott who beat several players before crossing int the box and Ben Summersgill was there to finish from close range. Riley Merrick chipped a nice free kick into the box which was hit on the turn by Tyler High but it was just wide. A great run and pass by Charlie Disney played In Tom Barber who finished very well but it was judged to have been off side. Duncan Stothard came on and was immediately involved putting in plenty of effort, a late Minehead corner saw Lewis Leach’s header go over the bar and Tyler High’s effort go agonisingly wide but it was a good team performance in difficult conditions.
