About this deal

very well done. as a massive nerdy fan of the original, and of it’s excellent sequel, i enjoyed the piece. i do have the cibi whiisky glasses, and also the ltd. ed. bladerunner 2049 whisky bottle in my collection. i just love that, 35 years after the fact, people are still referencing the film. that’s what makes it a classic, a cult fave, and an icon of dystopian film. you’ve done a man’s job, sir.

In 2049 we find little evidence of the kind of high-tech gadgetry and interactive, holographic computer screens that we have become used to in sci-fi films. Instead we find what Set Decorator Querzola described to me as a “sidebar” view of the future. Villeneuve and the production team wanted to create a future which extended the vision of the first movie and they found a grounding in this vision by imagining how the year 2049 might look if Steve Jobs and Apple hadn’t existed. Designed by the famous Italian designer Cini Boeri, the CIBI collection is characterized by the X-shaped body, which not only gives movement but also allows an easy and firm grip. But the visionary Cibi collection has won its place in the history of world cinema.

In Joshi’s (Robin Wright) LAPD office in Blade Runner 2049 we find an oh-so-beautiful grey metal E63 Table Lamp (also called the Ruspa Table Lamp) designed by Umberto Riva. The Blade Runner whisky glass is made from hand blown crystal glass by the original Italian company since 1974. These heavyweight Cibi stunning glasses command respect. Designed by Cini Boeri, made by Arnolfo di Cambio, and tried and tested (a little too frequently) by Film and Furniture. We get a better view of them in a behind-the-scenes shot of Denis Villeneuve on set, but they played even more of a starring role in the first movie.
