Kelsier: The famed Survivor of Hathsin, a half-skaa Mistborn who led a revolution against the Lord Ruler. At the novella's beginning, Kelsier is killed by the Lord Ruler but refuses to pass on to the Beyond, and instead becomes trapped in the Cognitive Realm, between the Physical and Spiritual realms. Oh, indeed,” Fuzz said. “He Ascended, if just for a short time. He held enough of the power to expand his soul.” Kelsier eventually found the fortress and attempted to infiltrate it. Kelsier was able to discern that the fortress was built with stone from another planet and sustained by an unfamiliar power; he was also inherently able to speak and read the Aonic language. A guard named Maod spotted him, and he and his captain reported the incident to Alonoe. Alonoe and the Ire were wary of intrusions by shades from Threnody, and assumed that Kelsier was one of them. She instructed the guard captain to turn on a special fabrial-like device, hoping to detect any Threnodites nearby. Although the device did not detect Kelsier since he was Scadrian, she told the guards and the rest of the Ire that they need to stay alert. [4] Mistborn: Secret History definitely has spoilers for Era 2 and the author recommends waiting until after Bands of Mourning to read it. Another factor is how much (if any) other Cosmere books/series has the individual read? If Mistborn is their first (or nearly first) work by Sanderson or in the Cosmere, then the ton of Cosmere references and information (Shadesmar, Ire, Connection, etc.) will not make much sense and will have far less impact than it should.

There may be more installments to the Secret History story, showing more of what Kelsier is up to behind the scenes with Spook and during the Wax and Wayne books. a b c d e f g h i j k l m n o p q r s t Mistborn: Secret History part 5chapter 2 Summary: Mistborn: Secret History/Part_5/Chapter_2 #But some of my favorite parts were seeing little bits of the original trilogy from a different perspective. I had a few questions sometimes throughout Mistborn 1-3 about what Preservation was doing and why a few scenes happened a certain way, but with this Novella it totally makes more sense. The original trilogy is totally complete with just what is in it but this added a new layer and depth like her is what Sanderson was thinking but he can’t tell you that since it would give too much away. Saying anything more here risks revealing too much. Even knowledge of this story’s existence is, in a way, a spoiler. Wayne hunts down Telsin and shoots her multiple times to avenge his friend's death, retrieving both MeLaan's and ReLuur's spikes. He restores MeLaan and lets Telsin escape.

As a group, the Ire are highly cosmere-aware and use terms like Fortune, Connection, Realmatic Theory, Cognitive Shadow, and Adonalsium. [4] They were aware that there was something happening to Devotion's Perpendicularity before the Reod occurred; [14] they were not on Sel during the Reod, but it affected them in some way. [15] They have some knowledge of manifestations of Investiture on other planets in the cosmere, although they do not always know all the details. [16] Their outposts on other planets and subastrals may contribute to this knowledge. [2] [17] Ruin, [18] Preservation, [10] and Harmony [2] were all aware of their fortress. Cosmere scholars Khriss and Nazh indicate that the Ire's knowledge far surpasses their own. [19] The Ire communicate with other cosmere scholars and worldhoppers in Silverlight, although they are fairly isolationist. Khriss believes that they may be hiding secrets about Sel and have denied her repeated requests for collaboration. [20] Equipment [ edit ] Fortress [ edit ] Soon after, Kelsier finds out that Leras (Preservation) is about to die, so he smashes the device and takes up the power of Preservation. Before he dies, Leras gives Kelsier one final instruction, as he gave him so long ago in the Pits of Hathsin: survive. Kelsier then tries to fight Ruin, but is unsuccessful, as his status as Cognitive Shadow is not enough to overcome the Intent of the shard to preserve. Instead, he tries to find a place where Ruin's influence is weaker. He finds it in Urteau, where Spook is spiked and is being induced to murder by Ruin. Kelsier intervenes, and Spook is freed from Ruin's influence. He appears to Spook in a dream, affirming his pride of the young man, and instructs him to warn Vin not to trust anyone pierced by metal. It turned out to be far more painful a process than he had anticipated. Instead of a soft fade to nothingness, he felt an awful tearing sensation—as if he were a cloth caught between the jaws of two vicious hounds. Mistborn: Secret History is a fantasy novella [n 1] by American author Brandon Sanderson, written as a companion story to the original trilogy of the Mistborn series. [1]Transcendent . . . all the familiar ideas and plots from epic fantasy have been turned inside out, and what happens at the end is utterly astounding in its audacity. The characterization is stellar, the worldbuilding solid and the plot intricate and compelling—if you haven’t read the first two books, go and do so immediately then buy this one. You won’t regret it. The Shards,” Khriss said, drawing ____’s attention, “are not God, but they are pieces of God. Ruin, Preservation, Autonomy, Cultivation, Devotion . . . There are sixteen of them.”

Wax and Wayne climb up to the rafters, and Wax spots his sister in one of the rooms. Wayne bluffs his way in, and Wax reunites with his sister. The door of the room opens and Telsin shoots the newcomer without hesitation. People with power,” Kelsier said, pointing toward the distant spires of Kredik Shaw. This was the road the Lord Ruler had taken, heading toward his palace. Though the Lord Ruler’s carriage was now distant, Kelsier could still see his soul glowing up there somewhere. Far brighter than the others. The Internet Speculative Fiction Database considers it to be novel length due to having nearly 50,000 words. However, it is marketed specifically as a novella per the cover. See entry at ISFDB ( archive).)Kelsier realizes that Ruin's power is incomplete until he finds the Lord Ruler's hidden cache of atium. He watches the battle at the Pits of Hathsin and Elend Venture's death at Marsh's hands. With her husband's death, Vin sacrifices herself to kill Ruin. Kelsier's long-time friend, Sazed takes up the powers of both Preservation and Ruin, ascending as Harmony. Kelsier tearfully reunites with Vin and watches as she too chooses to pass on to the Afterlife with Elend. After Harmony remakes the world, Kelsier speaks to Spook and recruits his help in getting him a new "string" to the physical realm. Vin’s struggles with love and power inject the human element into Sanderson’s engaging epic. Booklist The Ire's fortress is located in the Cognitive Realm at the very edge of the subastral of Scadrial, near the space between planets. [21] [22] The corresponding location in the Physical Realm is somewhere in the ocean beyond the Farmost Dominance in the northwest of the Final Empire. [19] It is made of white stones—actually the souls of stones—that glow with a faint, constant blue light. [4] The conduit that connects the fortress to the Dor provides the power needed for the fortress to have permanence in the Cognitive Realm, as the power can be seen coursing through the entire building. [4] It is beautiful and somehow inviting; it is the Ire's most well-constructed facility, [2] and is nearly as large a city. [4] [10] It has numerous windows, with some being narrow, like an arrow slit. The interior of the fortress has stone corridors and multiple large chambers. It also has living quarters for its residents, including bedrooms. Guards keep watch from the roof of the fortress looking for Cognitive Shadows, particularly those from Threnody. [4] Horses are also kept in the fortress. [12] Magical Artifacts [ edit ] During his journey, Kelsier meets Khriss from Taldain, and Nazh from Threnody. The pair enlighten Kelsier a little bit on how the events on Scadrial affect the cosmere but remain quite vague as to why they are there, or about events in the cosmere that are unrelated to the current conflict. Before parting, Nazh gives Kelsier his knife and wishes him well in his quest to save his planet. Along the way, Kelsier discovers many odd things about not being "alive" anymore. He finds that his Allomancy is useless and that he can create fire out of a log long since burned out simply by willing it to ignite.
