About this deal

Hỗ trợ 64 user kết nối đồng thời trên cả 2 băng tần, Hỗ trợ tất cả các thiết bị kết nối wifi hiện nay: máy tính bảng, smartphone, smartivi, camera wifi…… The Huawei B900 AI Cube looks a little bit similar to its predecessor Huawei B528 but there is the obvious difference. On the top, there are three keys available: one volume up key, one volume down key, and one mute key. On the body, there are three LED indicators for Signal, WiFi and LAN. However, unlike the latest Huawei B618s-22d WiFi router, there is no connector for the external antenna in the B900 AI Cube. Fibre Broadband is a one of the main alternatives, delivering potentially higher speeds and lower latency, but this requires a landline and setup by an engineer, whereas with the Huawei AI Cube you can get set up instantly, don't need a landline and can take the device anywhere with a network signal and mains supply. A 400ml sound cavity paired with an aluminium diaphragm and passive radiators combine to deliver what Huawei calls '"big sound". Adopting its proprietary Histen sound tuning technology seen in Huawei and Honor smartphones, the claim is that the AI Cube sound is 360-degree and immersive.

This is not a speaker for audiophiles, though. In terms of pure sound quality the AI Cube is firmly in standard Echo and Google Home territory rather than mixing it with the Apple HomePod and Sonos One. Given that it’s priced closer to the latter two premium smart speakers, that might strike some as a concern. As you have found with your iPad, you're getting the same speeds with a CAT4 device (a CAT4 cannot aggregate any bands) as you are with your B900, suggesting that both are connected to a single 4G band (probably B3). But that 4G home broadband function really is core to the Huawei AI Cube’s appeal. Treated as a pure smart speaker its ordinary sound output and relatively high price don’t make a great deal of sense. The SIM card slot is also at the bottom with the Reset hole. The Huawei B900 WiFi cube uses Micro SIM card size. Below the IMEI & S/N number label, there is an Ethernet port for LAN and WAN. The power plug port is at the side of the Ethernet port. On an unrelated note one thing to be aware of is that this doesn’t have a battery, so this isn’t ideal as a portable MiFi device. As it’s plug and play you can use it anywhere with power, but this won’t work for getting you online in the car or on a train. Software The design is fairly plain and generally reminiscent of other smart speakers. Indeed, it has far more visually in common with a smart speaker than a typical mobile broadband device. And while the design is plain, that helps ensure it will fit seamlessly into most home décor, which is important, because this is designed to replace home broadband.

Figuring out how to establish a Bluetooth link isn’t immediately apparent, though. It’s strange that you can’t hook up your smartphone in this way (for direct music streaming) from the HiLink app, but rather have to ask Alexa to do so. But at least the function is there, contrary to reports you might have read elsewhere. Features Maximum size for each attachment is 10MB (rar,jpg,zip,pdf,war,txt,docx,doc,png,mp3,mp4,xls,xlsx,gif,jpeg are supported). It’s a great addition to any home where Wi-Fi connectivity proves problematic and 4G performance is strong. It could also become a useful travel companion if your premises don’t always tend to have reliable Wi-Fi. WLAN: WiFi 802.111a/b/g/n/ac, dual-band(2.4GHz & 5GHz), 2 x 2 MIMO, 2 x 2 DBDC(Dual-band, dual-carrier) The 4G router component works well, as you’d expect given Huawei’s market-leading position in mobile connectivity. In fact the Huawei AI Cube seems to offer a slightly stronger 4G connection than your average smartphone can manage. In places where our Three-powered smartphone only displayed one 4G bar, the AI Cube would often show two or even three bars - though overall speeds remain dependent on general 4G network performance in the area. PerformanceIf you're looking for a device to use on Three then looking for one that is capable of aggregating at least B3+1 would be a good bet. Unfortunately while the B900 is a CAT6 device it cannot aggregate B3+1, it can only aggregate B20+32. That makes it slightly more expensive than most other mobile broadband devices from Three, such as theHuawei HomeFiand Huawei B535 WebBox, but then the Huawei AI Cube can do more due to the Alexa smart speaker (though again, isn’t quite as good at the broadband part as the B535 WebBox). The web interface is well laid out and complements the Hilink App. There are a few more useful features like the ability to manually configure a DNS server, send group SMS, setup VPNs, NAT, Mac filtering and more. Final verdict Let’s get the obvious observation out of the way for starters: no, the Huawei AI Cube isn’t in fact a cube at all. It’s more of an upright cylinder that tapers in from the bottom to the top.

There are also a couple of alternative products on Three. The HomeFi B311 has slightly lower specs with only 2.4GHz WiFi and lower maximum speeds, but has the option to add an external SMA aerial which can boost range significantly.

On a related note, the Huawei AI Cube can get up to 64 devices online at once, which should be far more than most people will need and is at least double what most mobile broadband devices allow. There are three core features to the Huawei AI Cube: its Alexa assistant function, its capabilities as a speaker, and that curveball inclusion of a 4G router. The AI Cube has an ethernet port and power supply on the bottom, and volume keys and a button to mute the microphone on the top – of course, when not muted the device will mostly be controlled by voice, more on which below. Setup The Huawei AI Cube is a seriously impressive device, managing to both match most smart speakers and better most home broadband devices. Two questions immediately emerge: does it work? And do you actually need such an unorthodox combination of features? Design

At the very bottom of the Huawei AI Cube’s rear side you’ll discover two ports - one for the power lead, and another for the ethernet connection we referenced above. The latter is a fairly unusual inclusion for a smart speaker, if not for a 4G router. The 4G mast that I connect to is situated in the next door property to my house, exactly 28 metres away from the router with a direct line of sight, hence my disappointment at the speeds that I have been getting. CA Bands: CA_3C/CA_7C/CA_38C/CA_1A-8A/CA_1A-20A/CA_3A-7A/CA_3A-8A/CA_3A-20A/CA_7A-8A/CA_7A-20A/CA_20A-32A/ It’s worth noting also that the price still makes it far cheaper than many typical home broadband plans, especially as they often require a landline, which this doesn’t. Conclusion In the flesh, it is loud, making plenty of noise in a busy room. While loud is good, there was depth and roundness to the sound too, though without testing the audio quality alongside its key competitors or in a controlled environment.

Looking for something else?

With Alexa built-in plus four far-field microphones, so it can hear you clearly, you can use your voice to turn smart lights on and off, adjust smart thermostats and control other smart home devices. You can also ask for weather and travel information, ask Alexa to play music and ask it to look up information. Getting connected to the web through the Huawei AI Cube is very simple. Just insert the SIM into the slot on the bottom of the speaker, plug it into the mains, then connect your device to the speaker via the Wi-Fi details supplied on the underside. Don’t be in any doubt: it’s the 4G router element that you’re spending the money on here. If sound quality is a clear priority, we’d recommend that you look elsewhere. Software
