About this deal

Glenmorangie is among, the oldest and finest scotch whiskey in the world. It was founded by William Matheson in 1843, but the company says that it has been producing alcohol since 1703. Glenmorangie Price in India Glenmorangie whiskies boast a symphony of flavours with a pure and fragrant spirit. They burst wonderfully with robust notes of fresh fruit and flowers. Its character and style are delicate, with hints of tangy orange, malt, sultana, and golden honey. Which is the sweetest Glenmorangie? Glenmorangie Signet Single Malt Scotch Whisky is the culmination of a "lifetime" of experimentation and innovation, says Dr. Bill Lumsden, Glenmorangie's Master of Whisky Creation. While studying Biochemistry and Cell Biology as a student at Glasgow University over 30 years ago, Lumsden began experimenting with the distillation of different varieties of malted barley that were commonly used to produce beer (the barley used to produce beer is often roasted or caramelized, while the barley used to make whisky traditionally is not). The title says a lot about my reaction. I was stunned by the nose. It was... smokey? Like a gentle Islay peatiness...? (Think of the more mild pours of Bunnahabbain) What? In a Glenmorangie?? A hint of sweetness I couldn't place, but not quite the raisins and cocoa described in the notes. Certainly not the signature Glenmorangie sweetness I'm used to. Is the subtle smokiness I got, the "toasted..." described in the notes? It didn't seem near as subtle as "toasted," but okay. It's certainly not actually petty. But it was such a bold start.

The palate was ridiculously lovely, it was sweet without being too sweet, I didn’t get any orange or citrus at all but I did get lychee but it was as if the lychee had been dipped in chocolate. As the taste develops it gets very complex and also frustrating as I tried to think of where the sweetness was coming from, I couldn’t nail anything in particular other than it evoked memories of my dear Nana’s sweet bowl which had a bit of everything. The hard work paid off, as the Signet won Whisky of the Year in the same year as Lumsden was named Master Distiller of the Year at the 2016 International Whisky Competition. Glenmorangie 18 Years “Inspired by the simple pleasure found in a cup of coffee, comes The Signet’s spiralling explosion of flavour, with sizzling spices and bursts of bitter mocha mellowed by smooth butterscotch.”– Glenmorangie

Like almost everything at Glenmo, they start by filling approximately 270 toasted wine barrels with a 10+ years old spirit, but this time it’s not the OG 10, but one containing the chocolate malt. The whisky stays in those toasted barrels for at least 2 years. During this time the angels take their share and it gets down to about 167 full barrels worth of whisky which gets dumped into a blending tank.

What is Glenmorangie known for?

The Signet was distilled twice through Glenmorangie's copper-pot stills, by a team of 16 distillers known as the 'Sixteen Men of Tain'. It was subsequently matured in bespoke American virgin oak casks before it was bottled at 46%, and received no chill-filtration. This brand is celebrated worldwide for its unparalleled silkiness, richness, and beautiful complexity. The distillery crafts about 10 million bottles annually and is known to be one of the best-selling Scottish single malts. Their whiskies are a well-poised blend of fruity and colourful floral notes, making them a favorite among novices and connoisseurs. It’s not what you typically think of when you think Glenmorangie, and I think that’s why Signet has such a huge following both within the hardcore Glenmo fans and the larger whisky-loving audience. For Glenmo lovers like myself, the Signet shows us more facets of what can come out of the distillery when the malt and casks are changed up; a drinkable glimpse into an alternate reality. Cocoa, vanilla, butterscotch, dark fruit leather, malt, Dots, tropical fruit, orchard fruit, citrus peels and spice. Glenmorangie Signet Single Malt Scotch Whisky earned the Double Gold Medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2009, 2010 and 2011, and earned a score of 95 points from Wine Enthusiast. In addition, it earned the Best Single Malt Scotch (no age statement) Trophy at the International Wine and Spirits Competition in 2013.

History and Origins

Glenmorangie Signet is their ultra-premium core release. It uses a high amount of chocolate malt, is only distilled once a year and the cask management to create it is quite involved. The notes I have from a deeply nerdy tasting says it goes something like this. The roasty notes in this make it stand apart from everything else Glenmo does, and that’s a good thing here. For those who aren’t Glenmo lovers, this gives folks something other than the usual bright and fruity whisky. It’s something deeper and darker to sink into and that has an appeal to a certain group of drinkers. Though no matter how you feel about Glenmo, and even if you hate this, I think we can all agree on the Glenmorangie Signet being one of the most unique whiskies/profiles in the world of Scotch.
