About this deal

Charlie is starring on the show to get some positive publicity; it’s a pretty outrageous decision because he has never felt sexual attraction before, and he doesn’t actually want a partner. Dev is an assistant on the show who helps the talent behave naturally in front of the cameras. They hit it off. More than hit it off - they soon become close friends, and as their emotional relationship deepens, Charlie experiences sexual attraction for the first time. well, it got me. i made it through nearly the whole book without shedding a tear, but man, that last third gave my tear ducts a workout. I was expecting a sweet gay love story—and boy, was this great—but I wasn’t expecting the deeper conversations about mental health, sexual identity, and self-esteem. I cried like a baby and smiled like a lunatic. The Charm Offensive was just amazing.

The angst was overdone as though the author knew where they wanted to go, but not how to get there. So they just kept pulling us along on what felt like an unending trip until suddenly... it skipped ahead 3 months. 3 Months where we're shown what Dev's been doing. But he doesn't come across as better. However... he has to be to bring everything together, right? That didn't sell. It felt plastic and contrived and completely not believable. And the producer? She got off majorly considering how horrendous she was, what with not only her extreme phobia, but her desire to screw over anyone with mental health issues. I got to say that the description of dev’s depression hit a little too close to home. so yes was a crazy ride being able to finish this book. The Charm Offensivehas been on my radar for a while. I devoured this book in one day via audiobook. There were quite a few elements of the book that I enjoyed including the mental health representation. However, there was a certain element in this book that I struggled with. a b c d e f g h i j Kamiński, Karol (August 16, 2016). " "I Don't Feel Here" An Interview With Damien Done". Idioteq. For many of us, the books we read propel us into fantasy and escapism. Those more impressionable among us (no judgment) absorb our favorite parts of characters for as long as we can cling to them. This is not that kind of book. This is the type of book that breeds a great deal of inner peace. It’s the type of book that reminds you to schedule therapy, or to take medication, and to feel a sense of pride in taking care of yourself. It reminds readers, whoever they are and whatever they may struggle with, that they don’t need to cling to fantasies. They are already the main characters of their own stories, if they choose to be. a b Kraus, Brian (December 12, 2011). "As Friends Rust vocalist releases solo EP". Alternative Press. It pulled out every emotion from me, and I loved that. It’s about so much more than the love between Dev and Charlie, though that was beyond fun to watch develop. Alison Cochrun is one to watch, and The Charm Offensive is one to read, savor, and hug! a b c d e f g h i j k l m n o p q r s t u v w x y z aa ab ac ad Senior, Nicholas (March 1, 2018). A sweet and thought-provoking story, The Charm Offensive is a gay/demisexual contemporary romance that takes place, improbably, on the set of a Bachelor-like reality show. I love how nicely sexuality is mentioned in this book. And how their friends are all supportive of each other. I'm gonna ignore the fact that she's literally twice my age.I wish we met in real life. I wish she was younger. I wish she was real. I wish there was a book from her pov. Thank you to the publisher and Goodreads for allowing me to read an advanced reader’s copy of this book. I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway, but that in no way impacts my thoughts on this book.
