The most important thing to note is that the Pixel 6 is the very first handset to be powered by Google’s in-house Tensor chipset. Ditching Qualcomm and avoiding Exynos and Kirin, Tensor promises a handful of performance and efficiency improvements over last year’s mid-range Snapdragon 765G, and it represents a bold new future for Google. The Pixel 6’s new “Face Unblur” feature also works tremendously well. When it detects a face in the frame while shooting in portrait mode, the ultrawide camera captures an image with a faster shutter speed than the primary lens as soon as you press the button. The Tensor chipset includes a 5G modem — reportedly one of Samsung's Exynos 5123 modems. That's a step or two behind the Qualcomm Snapdragon X60 modem found in current flagships such as the iPhone 13 and Galaxy S21. As a result, you'd expect 5G speeds to be a little slower on the Pixel 6. Magic Eraser, Real Tone, and Face Unblur are a few of the new camera features that the Tensor SoC makes possible. Except for Real Tone, which uses inclusive color science for more accurate representations of BIPOC people, none will fix a photo that's seriously messed up. Both cameras are capable of best-in-class photos. Our daylight test shots show fine detail with excellent depth of field, for the most part, but a few shots look slightly soft. Our biggest complaint is that our photos look washed out. And while Google has always been known for its natural-looking color science, photos with the Pixel 6 seem a little warm and undersaturated. That said, you can easily tweak your shots in Google Photos. There's some minor loss of fine detail with the ultrawide lens, but no noticeable distortionWhen it is time to recharge the Pixel 6, Google's device supports 21W wired charging, only a minor jump from the Pixel 5's 18W speed.
