Lately, a lot of metalcore bands have begun trying too hard to be serious, in ways that just feel forced and not truly heartfelt, as such, an album like this that focuses entirely on music's ability to be a positive, uplifting source of happiness, fulfilment and fun is such a breath of fresh air and stands out in the best way. Electric Callboy went through a lot the passed couple of years. They got a new singer and a new band name. However, all changes ended up being for the better. The band has truly come into their own, and now with TEKKNO, they have released their best album yet. In fact, TEKKNO is may just be my favorite album of the year so far. Speaking of the electronic components of the album, they are absolutely wonderful, taking what is already fantastic metalcore to a whole other level in terms of how they create a fiery, vibrant musical dynamic across the LP. The clash between the edgy, battered, worn looking section of the cover art with the bright and flash rainbow stripes down the side perfectly encapsulates the attitude of these songs -- they are full of bite and aggression yet also so perfectly full of colour, life and bold euphoria. One of my favourite things about the electronic components of the album is how the band don't try to necessarily sound particularly modern/contemporary either with them, as is usually the case with other metalcore acts when implementing synths these days. On-brand as ever with their unapologetic love for classic, shamelessly fun vibes, the band very specifically draws from classic 80s, 90s and early 2000s eurodance/eurobeat, trance, acid house, hardstyle, schlager and more when it comes to the exact tone and soundscape of the synths, beats and loops at play here. On 24 April 2020, frontman Kevin Ratajczak announced on YouTube that the search for a new singer was over. After an application phase, a video followed on 4 June 2020, announcing that Nico Sallach (former lead singer of the band To the Rats and Wolves) [17] would be the new lead singer of the band.
