About this deal

I definitely don’t get the impression of dim but when comparing it directly to other models of the same or smaller aperture the image doesn’t look quite as bright. Nevertheless, for most birders, and most situations, they do the job more than adequately, and it wasn’t as though they made birding at dawn or dusk a chore or even impossible. All models are have full broadband multi-coating optics and use BaK-4 glass for the roof prisms which are also phase corrected.

They feature two 42mm extra-low dispersion (ED) objective lenses that gather 130% more light than the naked eye, resulting in brighter and more detailed images. Just like standard binoculars, these have a diopter adjustment ring to calibrate them to cater for any differences in vision between the left and right eyes. Now that I have this 8x42 model with me, I have the chance to compare them side-by-side and take this thought process a little further and perhaps come to a conclusion. I would not rate it at the same level as the Bushnell Excursion in this area but somewhere between the Bushnell and the Sightron. That situation with the 'other' binocular sounds rather reminiscent of a pair I had for evaluation last year.Running through the whole distance range need a turn through an angle of 760 degrees – it means you have to turn it quite a lot. They also come equipped with a floating neckstrap, which prevents the binocular from sinking should it accidentally fall into the water. Cookies can also be used by our advertisers and the Google Analytics tool which gathers statistical data. The texture of the armor is smooth, has a nice feel and the binocular itself feels slim when holding them to the eyes.

Main optical highlights include ED Glass lenses, a Fully Multi-Coated optical pathway and Dielectric, Phase Corrected BAK-4 Roof Prisms. The 45mm versions have ED glass within their lenses and a magnesium chassis, whilst the compacts use aluminium for the chassis and do not have ED glass within the objectives.

The armor is mat black and feels like some kind of hard rubber with a silvery-grey focus knob and diopter setting to the right oculair, even as the ring at the right oculair, all seemingly made out of some kind of lightweight metal. Black rubber armor coupled with brushed silver accents around the eyepiece and a similarly colored focusing knob. If someone handed you this model and removed the brand name and exterior markings and asked an educated bino-consumer what they thought of the fit and finish I wouldn’t be surprised if they said “very good” to “excellent”. I don’t rotate the eyecups out on almost all of my binoculars so this is a moot point for me personally.

I know the rudimentary info but more in depth knowledge may explain why the comparison turned out such as it did. There is plenty of eye-relief and a good quality twist-up eyecup making this a good choice of scope for eyeglass wearers. So far the binoculars produced by Bresser haven't been performing well in our tests; the launch of the Pirsch ED series made me hopefull that it might change.

these are exactly the same as that of the 8x56 model, so I will as you to refer back to the body section of that review for those details. This 8x42 Bresser Pirsch ED binocular on the other hand is genuinely a fantastic all-rounder, sure it may not match the 8x56 in very low light, but thanks to quality optics and coatings, it is no slouch either and performs very well against its direct 8x42 competition.A high quality multi layer coating on all glass elements reduces distracting reflections and improves the light transmission and provides a high contrast even in bad light conditions. The Bresser P-Series Pirsch ED 8x42 binoculars are a high-quality astronomical instrument that provides stunning views of the night sky.
