About this deal

Opening track ‘Down the Road’ is energetic and distinctive, immediately highlighting Webster’s ability to craft tracks that feel simultaneously classic and modern. But listeners will struggle to find a more heartfelt tribute to a home than This Place, the reassuring feel everyone gets whenever a front door is opened set to words, little parochialisms and love wrapped into infectious togetherness, optimism and hope. The next song and a personal favourite of mine is Living for Yesterday which is already one of Webster’s singles. The Liverpudlian artist perfectly captures his worldview across an album that is anthemic and ambitious. Sitting around the middle of the album is Somethings Gotta Give talking about the harsh realities of life.

Though Liverpool seems to be very aware of the 24-year-olds talent, this album is set to capture the rest of the nation soon enough. He speaks of the unfairness of life for the working class and the reality of dreams creating a melancholy feel which is also felt in Stop Living Blind and is a needed feature of his album. Webster originally grew in renown for providing new soundtracks to Liverpool Football Club’s rising fortunes, playing to 60,000 fans attending the 2019 Champions League Final in Madrid and performing around the world, as far afield as Australia and Dubai. It has an acoustic start with a slow tempo which takes a complete turn when an unsuspecting tempo change hits the listener taking away a sense of predictability that might be expected from this genre of music. The messages of his songs are raw and vital, as each track clearly has a purpose and there are no filler moments. It has similar origins to Diamonds in the Mud by Gerry Cinnamon but without the specifics towards the certain place.

Stop Living Blind’ and ‘Somethings Gotta Give’ offer a more mellow and laid back side to Webster, illustrating the range of the project. As he sees it though, the means to combat all of this are rooted in community, in throwing away the meaningless and cutting spite and division out of lives (advice given on the street corner yell of Change) before rescuing those who’ve slipped between the cracks and lifting them up (Out On The Street, its scouse-psych overtones handed down through generations of the city’s best like an heirloom).
