About this deal

I wrote a 15 page review of it,which can still be found in this forum's "Link to 433+ reviews" virtual library. When out in the field (on dry land), I usually don't use them much and almost never take the time to attach the rain-guard to the neck strap as it just gets in the way. Every 7x30 binocular in the world has similar depth of field and works the same way without any imaginary “autofocus” necessary.

With this high-tech solution from STEINER, fogging or condensation inside the binoculars is completely eliminated. When you look through Steiner binoculars, you feel the passion and the fascinating success story of the traditional company founded by Karl Steiner in 1947. As with many of their other instruments these are also filled with nitrogen gas under pressure and are said by Steiner to prevent fogging up inside at temperature range of between -20°C to +60°C. As with all the Steiner binoculars that I have reviewed, made from amicro-fiber material, the included cleaning cloth is of good quality. The Navigators are now marked differently; “AUTO FOCUS” is printed in big letters on both sides of the central hinge. Had my trip involved more hiking and backpacking, then yes perhaps I would once again switch back to a full compact. From my canoe, I spent a lot of time birding, be that waders like wagtails on the bank, birds on the water like ducks, swifts in the many cliffs faces we passed and then smaller fast-moving birds like kingfishers as well as larger raptors like the buzzards we get in this part of France.

The problem for me and choosing my binoculars for my kayaking trip is the fact that most marine binoculars are designed to be used on larger boats/vessels and so size and weight are not a big priority and thus a 7x50 is probably the most common configuration. Caused by chromatic aberrations, color fringing is generally more difficult to control with high magnifications, so even though the Steiner Navigator Pro 7x30 Binoculars does not have ED glass (which is designed to reduce chromatic aberrations), the level of observable color fringing, even under extremes like viewing a black telephone wire against a bright blue, sunlit sky only showed very little amounts which is impressive and they compare very favorably even against the very best in this area.

The binoculars have the same legendary ruggedness as all Steiner models and are nitrogen pressure-filled, to help prevent fogging and condensation, as well as being waterproof up to 5 metres. Firstly the moderate 7x power helps make it much easier to keep the image steady and shake-free with a lower magnification, which on the unsteady platform of a boat or yacht on the water is of great importance. everything from about 60m-70m up to infinity is perfectly“sharp and clear”; below, everything is increasingly blurred as you observe objects at shorter distances. Sharp images, absolute reliability and unmatched handling; all the features and advantages which Steiner marine binoculars are known for. With its compact design and a lens diameter of 30mm, the Navigator is an absolute lightweight and the perfect companion for spontaneous adventures at sea.The large, illuminated compass is also equipped with a bearing mark to enable safe and reliable navigation on all seas. Leupold Roof prism model that my CN friend Patric brought over with him from Sweden during a visit in the summer of 2009,which was a delight to use, either in spite of,or more likely BECAUSE of it's "Plossl-like" AFOV. Advanced accessoires We developed for you a new universal attachment system for the neoprene harness.
