Minehead were away to Ruishton on Sunday and shared the points after a closely fought game which ended 1-1.
Both teams fought well for possession early on,the home side were first to attack with a long searching ball into the box but Callum Dewar in the Minehead goal was quickly off his line to gather. Lewis Leach,Ajay Shopland and Riley Merrick had to make a number of interceptions and clearances as Ruishton pressed for a goal, a long range effort was well over the bar and a corner was headed clear by Henry Murrell. They were then awarded a free kick on the edge of the box and Callum Dewar managed to get a hand to it and the follow up shot was cleared off the line by Charlie Disney. Lewis Leach and Olly Prescott combined well on the right as Minehead started to pass the ball better, Tom Barber made a good run crossing into the box for Ben Summersgill to chase but the keeper was quickly out to gather. Ben Summersgill then played Issac Sweetland through but again the keeper was first to it, Tom Barber then linked up with Olly Prescott who's cross into the box just cleared the bar. Tom Barber then came close after getting on the end of a long throw by Henry Murrell but he couldn’t keep his shot down and saw it sail over the bar, a counter attack from the home side also ended with a strike over the bar. Man of the Match Archie Dascombe was working tirelessly in the middle of the park seeing plenty of the ball and making some great penetrating runs, Issac Sweetland played a great ball through the middle to set Ben Summersgill through on goal with only the keeper to beat but his early taken shot rolled agonisingly past the post then Issac Sweetland had his long range effort saved as Minehead finished the half strongly.
Minehead started well with Olly Prescott and Issac Sweetland combined well to set up Henry Murrell who’s chip looked like it had the keeper beaten but it was just wide. Russell Lindsey then set up Charlie Disney and his long range effort forced a great save. Henry Murrell then had his strike blocked following some good play involving Archie Dascombe and Tom Barber, soon after Isaac Sweetland played in Henry Murrell who opened the scoring with a superb curled shot from inside the box which found the top corner. Minehead came close again when Russell Lindley and Henry Murrell linked up and set up Tom Barber and a fine shot from the edge of the box saw the keeper make a superb save tipping it onto the bar and over for a corner, Olly Prescott floated it in and Henry Murrell’s header was also saved. Issac Sweetland then made a great run into the box skilfully getting around two defenders but the keeper did well to save. Some good possession and pressure from the home side then resulted in an equaliser when a high ball into the box was not cleared and ended up in the roof of the net when it came off a Minehead head for an own goal. Second half keeper Ben Bloys had to pull off a save to keep the scores level then at the other end Issac Sweetland put Henry Murrell through and the keeper did well to deflect the ball wide with his foot. Tom Barber, Olly Prescott and Issac Sweetland all had shots blocked in the final minutes as Ruishton defended in numbers and held on for a point.
