About this deal

This is a great telescope package for beginners because it includes everything you need to start observing the night sky.

So, if you want to photograph it, and your telescope has so much magnification that it can’t even fit the entire full moon into a single frame, it has zero chance of capturing the Andromeda Galaxy. Finally the 'Travel Pro' - the first variable-use fork mount from Celestron, with built-in stand, which can also be used without a tripod. Collimation requires a screwdriver to adjust the three screws which hold the mirror in place (find them at the rear of the telescope).

The Nexstar 8SE has been designed so that it is quick and easy to set up thanks to its unique, patented single fork arm design and sturdy steel tripod which can all be broken down into separate components for easy transport and quick assembly. EclipSmart solar products feature Solar Safe filter technology providing the ultimate protection from harmful solar radiation, including both IR and UV light, and filters 99. One of the most important factors in a telescope is its transmission—the percentage of light that reaches the focal plane. As an astrophotographer, the first thing I noticed was the Alt-Az fork mount, and that’s not what you want if your primary interest is long-exposure astrophotography. However, you can’t use rechargeables as they don’t have enough juice, and a decent set of AAs will get quickly drained by your setup.

Despite the excitement of a moving into a new house under Bortle Class 6 skies, I’ve had a rough start to the new year in terms of astrophotography. If you envision a time lapse with star trails spinning around Polaris, the ones closest trace small arcs and the furthest large. Your 8SE will arrive in boxes that are robust and adequate for storage and transporting, to begin with. Focal Ratio (f/stop) directly affects how long of an exposure you will need to take to photograph a given object. Celestron's iconic orange tube design is updated with all the latest features to provide the best stargazing experience for beginners and experienced observers alike. This will make it easier to carry and provides your precious telescope with great protection during storage and transportation. Celestron’s signature orange-tube telescope combines advanced features and excellent optics in one easy-to-use system, the NexStar 6SE. It has never been so easy to align a telescope: no spirit levels, aligning with the North Pole, compass, or finding of Polaris is necessary (a balcony observatory). The long focal length – over 2m – means that we get some big magnifications, as the table above shows. You need a minimum signal (observable image separate from background noise) to stack, so low exposure times may not have enough detail, even when stacked.

Thus the system is closed and hence does not suffer from air turbulence which could degrade the image. The design of the tracking telescope mount (fork-mounted Alt-Az) wasn’t designed for it, but is it a complete waste of time? Like all catadioptric scopes, the optical tube is a sealed unit, so takes a long time for the air trapped inside to equalize its temperature with the outside world. Welcome to our thorough, honest and comprehensive Celestron NexStar 8SE telescope review, showing you everything good and bad about this scope. Incidentally, the Cloudy Nights forums are filled with opinions stating that the 8SE is only good for visual astronomy and planetary imaging.Learn more about extra solar planets imagery, 3D Star rendering, observation planning, telescope control, multiple-panel printing, and much more.
