The mouse has default functions without a driver. Evoluent Mouse Manager for Mac may be installed to program the buttons and adjust the pointer speed.
Earlier models have an illuminated logo that cannot be turned off. Later models may be turned off this way: Extended lip prevents rubbing - An extra wide lip along the bottom edge prevents the last finger from rubbing the desk. Early computer mice had three buttons but no wheel. When the wheel was introduced, it doubled as the middle button since horizontal mice are not wide enough for three buttons and a wheel. Slight vibrations to the desk may result in the mouse moving enough to unintentionally wake the computer. This issue may be prevented by disabling the wake feature in Power Management. To avoid EMI or electrical interference, try to position the mouse's wireless receiver away from a computer speaker or monitor. Even moving the receiver a few inches away can sometimes resolve the issue.Scroll wheels with optical technology that do not wear out, unlike the mechanical encoders common on other mice which tend to wear out. Glide Pads: The Evoluent vertical mouse (or a previous generation of it) is one of the very few ergonomic mice that I’ve actually used, day-to-day, for more than a week or so. Unfortunately, that period of “more than a week” was before my previous review, and thus is currently about six years in the past. During that time, I recall the previous-generation Evoluent being quite handy and nice to use, largely due to its well-designed and stable driver (on which more in a moment). VerticalMouse still has basic functionality without the driver.
After it is run, VerticalMouse will not wake the computer when it is moved, until the next time it is plugged in again or the driver is updated. I am sure that Evoluent could bring their own team of experts to declare this theory incoherent nonsense, and perhaps they would be right. I myself never experienced such issues during the time when I was an Evoluent user (though I still prefer Contour’s Perfit mouse for other reasons). One thing on which I think virtually everyone would agree is that the Evoluent mouse is a huge ergonomic step up from the mouse that probably came with your computer. Finger grime accumulation

Eliminates Arm Twisting
A hand 7.0″ / 178 mm or smaller from the tip of the middle finger to the nearest crease on the wrist may be more comfortable with the small models. Pointer Speed Switch: Evoluent wired mice have much longer cables than the industry standard 1.6 m / 5.25 ft for reaching under desks. Quality Cable: Before installing the Evoluent driver, go to Applications to find and uninstall any existing mouse or keyboard driver to avoid possible software conflicts.
