About this deal

The Lakes Distillery created a world-class distillery ‘from scratch’ within a National Park – making what may seem like the impossible, possible. To produce spirits in the most environmentally-friendly way possible, they have adopted a distilling process with no waste and, wherever possible, they recycle water and heat.

The Herbal Gin Company Limited is a brewery company that specialises in gin. Brewing high-quality spirits, they concoct special herbal gins that are flavourful and rich to the taste. Crafted to perfection, they want to share to the public the different gin product that they have. Using the finest ingredients from citrus, botanicals to raspberry, vanilla and other herbal mixes, you can certainly taste the difference that only they can deliver. Drawing its inspiration from ancient history and tradition, Hadrian’s Wall Gin is handcrafted in Northumberland. Infused with traditional Roman herbs and botanicals including coriander – they use a variation of seeds synonymous with Roman life during the occupation of the wall. As well as chamomile, a botanical vital in providing sweet undertones, there are floral notes, and mint which contributes to its oriental flavour. When all of the botanicals come together, they provide a truly fragrant finish. It also spawned the likes of an extra-strength Pirate gin, in a distinctive poison bottle; flavoured varieties and an Angel of the North Gin to mark the sculpture's 20th anniversary - which added a herb from their own garden, close to the Angel, to the original botanicals of juniper, lemon, grapefruit, star anise and cardamom. There followed spiced rum too. Even in tough times - 2020 - the company was voted Alcohol Producer of the Year by Aspire Magazine. For more about the company see here. After being distilled in a 300-litre copper still named Florence, in a Grade-III listed building overlooking the stunning Malton landscape, a beautifully-smooth and balanced gin is produced. Featuring 11 fine quality botanicals (including juniper, green pepper, rosemary, hibiscus and citrus) all carefully selected due to their distinct flavours.

After William Slingsby discovered the unique properties of the water held in the Tewit Well, he had a vision that was a little different – Slingsby sought to bottle the beauty and restorative nature of Harrogate. Containing only pure, natural, hand-grown local plants which seek to compliment the water, the spirit is expertly brought together in a 100-year- old copper still and is hand-finished in North Yorkshire. Rare Bird Distillery is a Mediterranean inspired distillery that produces high-quality artisan spirits. Designing and creating their own 300-litre copper still that helps distil the finest gin that they have, they also use 11 different botanicals that when blended together will create the finest concoction. They use green pepper, hibiscus, rosemary, citrus, lemon, orange and grapefruit.

Local junipers found on the fells are at the heart of their gin. Other native botanicals, such as bilberry, heather and hawthorn, also feature and all are combined with water sourced high up in the Cumbria fells from the River Derwent. The Whitley Bay-themed tipple boasts the holy trinity of flavours that make for a delicious gin in my opinion: juniper, warming je ne said quoi spice and citrus. Mostly citrus for me, definitely pink grapefruit, it is peppery with juniper and coriander. Bittersweet and a not too hot alcohol finish. Great tonic always helps of course, this Lixir was ideal. Top up with soda and garnish with fresh grapefruit wedge and a sprig of tarragon. It’s been 37℃ this week so this went down like pop. I finished it with lemon but I do think even harsher pink grapefruit would have been great. Like this a lot!
