About this deal

Which is another point worth mentioning: You do not need to know anything about football to enjoy this game. You’ll then flip the opponent card, revealing how they’ve allocated their players and what those players’ offensive powers are, and based on that, figure out the score of the match.

So, if you have an overwhelming majority of attacking players, if you put them in the right places, they can score goals. If you wanted Liverpool and Man City instead of Merseyside Red and Man Blue, you had to put in the time to edit the rosters. Finally, I understand that a solo-only game is harder to market than a game with multiple player counts. Before I start explaining the game, I think it is important to start out by saying that while the game is very thematic, no previous knowledge of soccer/football is required to play or enjoy the game. If you feel your blood boiling at the very idea of such ludological injustice, Eleven isn’t for you.

Additionally, while the player mats representing your stadium, the pitch, and the managerial offices are nice, it would have been nicer if they were made out of cardboard rather than thin plastic sheets.

Yes, it boasts a poor rulebook, another common characteristic attributed to the publisher, but it manages to come through on the self-professed identity in a way that I haven’t seen since Robinson Crusoe. It’s the evocative punch captured by the board meeting, and it’s an approach and spirit that is carried through the rest of the design. Like your gaming table after setting up this beast, the mechanics behind the matches in Eleven are kind of a mess. When managing the club, you will use 80 Resource markers and over 70 tokens – Strength, Weakness, Injury and Suspension , as well as 28 Stadium Infrastructure tokens . There are nameless youth stars you can recruit, waiting for the surprise of the player they can become with your investment. Now, with hindsight, I contend this uproar was deserved, as Eleven is a wonderful game that overcomes some haphazard execution to produce a design that falls just short of brilliant.

Each player gets three boards to represent their club (stadium board, club director board, match board). This expansion comes with 14 extra scenarios and also provides an overarching campaign where you can link all of them together. The number of players you have on the pitch at any given time, with those players making all the difference between being the best team and the worst.

Beneath the directors, you will find an area to keep track of your clubs four major statistics: yellow money, red fan support, green staff, and blue fitness.
