Minehead under 15s faced a strong Rhode Lane side at Bridgwater on Sunday who ended up taking all the points with a 4-0 win.
Rhode Lane started quickly, their first attack saw a fine strike from the edge of the box curl into the top corner for an early goal. Tyler High combined well with Tom Barber on the left which ended with a long range effort from Charlie Disney but it didn’t trouble the keeper. A long ball through from the home side had the Minehead keeper Ben Bloys rushing off his line to make a save then the rebound was cleared off the line by Lewis Leach. Riley Merrick played out from the back for Minehead linking up with Russell Lindley and Tom Barber who forced a corner which ended in a free kick for the home side for holding in the box. Minehead came close to equalising after some good link up play involving Olly Prescott and Tom Barber who crossed into the box and Ben Summersgill shot came off the bar and was somehow cleared off the line. Callum Dewar was having to work hard in defence as Rhode Lane had a number of attack’s down the left wing this time earning themselves a corner which was tipped over the bar by the Minehead keeper. A second corner was cleared to the edge of the box and an unstoppable strike rifled into the top corner for 2-0. Ajay Shopland played a good searching long pass up the left for Tom Barber who made a great individual run into the box but the keeper was quickly off his line to gather.
Rhode Lane were straight on the attack again in the second half forcing Ben Bloys to tip the ball over following another shot on goal, the resulting corner was then headed over. Tyler High, Tom Barber and Olly Prescott again linked up well but Prescott’s long range effort didn’t trouble the keeper. Olly Prescott then made a good run down the right crossing into the box but Ben Summersgill couldn’t get enough on it to direct it goalwards.
Charlie Disney and Tyler High were both having a good game in the middle of the park as Minehead fought back pressed well and made some great strong challenges. Man of the Match Tom Barber then combined well with Russell Lindley who put a great ball into the box but Olly Prescott’s header was inches over. Minehead were unfortunately caught on the brake in the final minutes as they pushed forward and Rhode Lane were 3-0 up then just before the final whistle a shot following a cleared corner found its way through a crowded box for 4-0.
