Minehead Under 15s were knocked out of the cup

Minehead Under 15s were knocked out of the cup on Sunday losing 5-0 to the inform and top of the league Staplegrove Sinners.

Played in difficult wet and muddy conditions the home side were soon in control and testing Ben Bloys in the Minehead goal who made a super save following a fierce strike from outside the box tipping the ball onto to the bar. Staplegrove went ahead after some good passing and an individual run into the box passing several players before finding the bottom corner of the net. They came close again soon after with a free kick floated into the box but the headed effort was just wide. The defence of Ajay Shopland, Lewis Leach, Riley Merrick and Charlie Disney were all working hard to keep Staplegrove out but a teasing ball into the six yard box saw the home side get a head to it and it was poked in from close range for 2-0. Minehead came close to scoring through Issac Sweetland after some good play involving Taylor High, Callum Dewar and Lewis Leach who played a lovely ball through but the keeper made a fine save to deny Minehead. As Minehead pushed forward they were caught on the counter with a long ball forward and after shrugging off a challenge their striker neatly went around the keeper and made it 3-0. Lewis Leach had a long range effort saved just before the break and Minehead started to play some better football in the second half and came out fighting. Tom Barber was making some good runs on the left as was Olly Prescott on the right and chances were starting to come, Finley Foreman and Ben Summersgill linked up well to get into the box but Olly Prescott’s shot was blocked, Issac Sweetland came close and was then involved in a good move with Man of the Match Finley Foreman but Olly Prescott’s shot from outside the box was tipped over. Archie Dascombe who worked tirelessly in the middle of the park made a great individual run into the box but again the keeper was equal to his shot. Minehead were again caught on the counter with some quick passing and a neat finish and Staplegrove were 4-0 up. Tom Barber made another penetrating run up the left wing crossing well and Olly Prescott managed to get his head on it but it was just wide of the post. Staplegrove were awarded a penalty just before the end for a hand ball and it was well taken to secure a deserved 5-0 win.
