Unterstütztend kann ich jedem noch die App Curable ans Herz legen, die die Autoren dieses Buches unterstützt haben! I’m not a novice when it comes to self-awareness, processing emotions, and figuring out my traumas and triggers. I haven’t really found it’s helped yet but intend to read it again as the athlete makes it very enjoyable and a funny read. I usually get terrible, terrible migraines about once or twice a year that send me to the ER, so it made sense that maybe I was now suffering from chronic migraine. While the few pages of actual ideas presented in the book are worthwhile and valuable reading, I can't recommend it as a full book.

Balance is vital because it’s only when we are in tune with each aspect of our health that we can fully experience wellness. It’s important to know about the test case that seeded the therapy, but the only thing radiating off the page is the excitement of scientific discovery. g. nutrition, habits, sleep quality, fulfilment and self expression, relationships, social and spiritual life, work (if we’re able to) and others. He is the author of "Breeding Between the Lines " and has appeared on BBC London News, NPR and BBC Radio. In the absence of that, I'm left feeling like that I have to go back and and re-read the book and take my own notes: Something that it never would have occurred to me to do while I was reading it given the writing style (which felt more like a convo between friends. Well meaning doctors may have scared you, or confused you, or you may have become somewhat of a doctor yourself via google - and in the end turned into a scared, in pain mess, who is now wondering if you will be able to get out of this. Because the therapy is quite straightforward you can do it even if you’re severely affected by illness. I have read John Sarno's book on back pain and found it no help at all, but this book has a more nuanced and sophisticated approach than that book.

I recently started seeing a therapist who specializes in Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT) and she recommended this book to me as an overview of the technique. From then onwards, I’ve been living in near constant pain, unable to do things that made me happy, such as exercise and sports. There’s a little bit of overlap, but I learned a few new things and it was a great refresher for all the concepts I’ve already learned. Yoni K Ashar, Alan Gordon, Howard Schubiner et al, Effect of Pain Reprocessing Therapy vs Placebo and Usual Care for Patients With Chronic Back Pain: A Randomized Clinical Trial, JAMA Psychiatry 2022 Jan 1;79(1):13-23. The author explained the recent science and brought it to life from someone who clearly lived the (suffering)experience.Very, very useful indeed and an absolute lifesaver if you’re willing to accept that your mind and body are connected and that your brain can cause the pain that you are feeling. I kept thinking, if the pain could be switched on such as it was, then surely there must be a way to switch it off again. however, when the pain comes now, I am using the techniques from the book to minimize the pain, and it’s absolutely working.

Alan Gordon, a psychotherapist and the founder of the Pain Psychology Center in Los Angeles, was in grad school when he started experiencing chronic pain and it completely derailed his life. Based on the premise that pain starts in the brain not the body, Gordon’s Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT) enables you to rewire your neural circuits and turn off 'stuck' pain signals . Edit: retroactively changing this to a 4 because honestly I have started trying this technique and it is working to reduce my pain.To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Alon has a degree in neuroscience and was awarded the Certificate of Distinction in Teaching in Biology from UCLA. And after 3 weeks of applying the mindfulness and having this mantra in my head with positive thoughts, I can now say that 50% of my pain is already gone. Does your pain consume your thoughts- when you feel a twinge of pain, do you obsess over whether or not it's going to get worse? So, it is wonderful to have a book on PRT that is easy to understand and that clearly explains how to successfully treat chronic pain.

Another thing I rate this book for, is it’s brevity; there’s enough detail to ensure everything is clear and covered but no superfluous text. I found this is helpful because elements of their experience mirror my own and I have some of the same queries and reactions.

Usually, signals are generated and transmitted by the body to the brain, which in turn processes them. Zuerst gibt es einen kurzen Überblick zur wissenschaftlichen Lage von chronischen Schmerzen (und anderen Erkrankungen) und wie sehr das Gehirn diese beeinflusst.
